Crows...
As some of you might know, I like crows.
Well yesterday I was walking Merlyn through Highland Park and I lookd off to my right and I saw a crow, on its back convulsing.
*sigh*
One person in NY has reported having West Nile. Monroe county NY has found 8 dead crows that were infected with the West Nile Virus. I think I saw the 9th dying!
I went to find the first county worker I could find. He happened to be at the resovroir office and he was as freaked as I was, and he told me to go over to the Conservitory and tell them and they will call someone etc. So I did so. The lady there said she would call the Health Department. I said OK, would you like me to go wait by where the crow is so the people can find him easily?
Now here is what I was picturing: men in rubber suits, breathing apparatuses and thick ruber goves to shop up, put the crow in some lock box and leave as quickly as they came.
Yea...anyway, that did not happen, as soon as I finished the sentance about waiting by the crow, they lady laughed and shrugged a little and said that the Health Department would not arrive for a couple ~*~DAYS~*~!!
I just stood there with my mouth open....
"Days?" I said,
"Yea, I know. They found a West Nile positive bird just last week right near the same area where that one you saw is. Sorry." she said.
*sigh*
So I went back to by the crow, said a little something over his still twitching body, looked around at all the TONS of crows on the ground and in the trees around him and had to leave.
I got home, hopped online and went to the Monroe County Health Department website. I found a phone number to report dead crows, I called it. That was uneventful, they did not even say if they were going to get it and test it or not. Then I found a spot on the website where you cn fill out a form (about 2/3rd down the page)for dead crow reporting. I did that...
4 times.
Poor crow.
Just me,
Fran =(
