Adoption update
Well, we got a letter in the mail the other day from the adoption agency.
It is a letter saying that they are ready to do another homestudy class session!
The 4 Thursdays in October.
Well, I was actully kind of expecting the letter now, of all times. This is the time of year when money is tight, so paying the fee is really really hard for us to do right now. So we are not sure if we will be able to join this class session.
*sigh*
For those unsure of what I am talking about I will explain a bit of the process.
Step 1- Apply and send in application fee *DONE!*
Step 2- Go through the homestudy process. With this agency the require you to take Homestudy classes at the same time to prepare you for each step in the homestudy process. Want to know about the homestudy process? Check this website out,or here or even here.
Pay a starting fee, once in the class and you finances are worked out, pay the rest of the fee based on a sliding scale (this fee is just for the homestudy ie. statr of Gov't paperwork)
Step 3- When you pass the homestudy, you are placed on the waiting parents list for birthmom (or birthparents) to chose you. Could be the next day after you pass the homestudy, or it could be awhile. With this agency, it is only 4-9 months it seems.
Step 4- Child placement. A birthfamily choses you, you go though all the final paperwork and pay the main adoption fee.
Step 5- Enjoy your new addition!
Those are the basics...now, we are at step 2, hoping to find the money to move on. THOUGH...the other day I did remember that you get 100% of what you pay for an adoption back through the Adoption Tax Credits. It is everything up to $10,630. So that really helped our way of thinkning. Perhaps extend our line of credit or get a low interest creditcard or loan though the bank, because it will be paid off the tax year the adoption is final.
So, anyway...I am trying not to let depressed thoughts enter my mind, like "Why do I have to pay all this money to get a child when some 16 year old drug using child can get pregnant when she just looks at her drug dealing pimp."
Yea, things like that.
Thanks for listening, any suggestions, please pass them on!
Just me,
Fran =)
